Following its trademark registration last July, Rideon Japan has finally officially announced a new strategy game from the Mercenaries Saga franchise entitled Mercenaries Rebirth: Call of the Wild Lynx. Not much different from the previous series, the game still carries the tactical RPG genre with a fantasy world setting, where players will be faced with strategic battles in maps with an isometric perspective.
At first glance, Mercenaries Rebirth is indeed similar to iconic strategy games such as Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre, but at the same time the gameplay still brings its own uniqueness. One of its key features is “Rebirth Exceed”, where each character can activate special skills with their own unique effects, such as launching high-damage attacks on enemies, or restoring all fallen party members to fight again.
Another attraction of the game also lies in the pixel art graphics of the character units that can blend naturally while on a 3D map. Each character, such as humans and monsters, has been designed with smooth motion animations, which feel even more alive thanks to the addition of charming artwork by Shunsuke Makimura which is also inserted into the cut-in of the character when using special skills.
The good news is that players don’t have to wait long to be able to play the game, because Mercenaries Rebirth: Call of the Wild Lynx will be released on October 14th. But please note that the game release is only for platforms PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan, so there are currently no plans for a global version.
